Victorian Desalination Plant

Victorian Desalination Plant Photos

On Thursday 7-March-2024 10 members of the ACRNA visited the Victorian Desalination Plant at Wanthaggi, 2 hours outside Melbourne. We were hosted by Matthew Laguitton (Operations Manager) of Watersure who are the operators of the facility. After giving us a crash course in the desalination process, Matthew spent two hours walking us through the recently upgraded Control Room and the desalination plant itself. The ACRNA group was impressed with the complex and sizable plant required to extract fresh water from sea water, not to mention the environmental considerations  needed in the construction and operation of the site. The plant is located on 250 hectares of immaculately restored former farmland in east Gippsland that is well worth a visit if you’re ever passing through on the way to Philip Island.

Look out for further site visit opportunities in 2024 across our control room network, starting with the BARCO Demonstration in April!
